Finnplay 2023 in Review

2023 was another year of growth and transformation for Finnplay.  The company continued to outperform all its KPIs including revenue, EBITDA, delivery and overall platform performance.  Finnplay also reached an important milestone on Dec 17, 2023 when the company celebrated 15 years since its founding. 2023 Blog

Perhaps the best measure of Finnplay’s success this year can be measured by looking at the continued success of the operators on the platform.  Operators in The Netherlands, Baltics, Central Europe and Mexico have rocketed to become top-3 brands in their respective markets. Monthly GGR results from Finnplay’s top-earning operators have more than doubled during 2023 – putting heavy pressure on the underlying technology to meet the increasing demand.  Finnplay’s team succeeded in scaling the platform delivery, hardware capacity and overall performance in perfect tandem with the operators’ commercial growth.

Supporting this level of expansion also required adding new providers across all markets.  During 2023, Finnplay expanded its portfolio of leading supplier on the platform by adding almost a dozen new integrations to top suppliers including Eeze, Playtech, AceRun, Adyen, EGT Digital and more.

Commercial success

Finnplay continued to accelerate its growth from 20% in 2021 and 2022 and is currently projected to achieve a significantly even larger growth result in 2023.  That growth comes in spite of exiting all unregulated markets following its acquisition by the Entain Group in 2021.

Throughout 2023 Finnplay has kicked off projects for 7 new brands including:

  • 4 more Dutch brands
  • 2 new Swedish brands
  • 1 new Romanian brand

These sites will be opening throughout 2024 and will mark a 50% increase in Finnplay’s live brands.

The company has also grown in personnel to support the increasing delivery demands.  2023 started with 85 staff, and reached the significant milestone of 100 by August.  Finnplay also moved its headquarters to a new office in Kielaniemi – the “Silicon Valley” of Finland – to accommodate the growing team, and help attract new talent from the area.  2024 will see the total employees expand by another 25% to further support the continued strong growth forecast in the coming year.

Finnplay’s commercial success has also been recognized again by leading business organisations in Finland receiving three coveted awards this year including;

Finnplay also grew its product offering by developing and launching two separate mobile apps in different European markets.  Mobile apps have been extremely successful in contributing to the operators’ bottom line.  For example, the first operator to receive a mobile app from Finnplay in 2021 was earning over 50% of its GGR from the app as of September this year.

Finnplay’s growth story in Sweden will also continue, with new operators coming online in 2024, following Finnplay’s successful acquisition of the Swedish B2B license in March.

Stability and flexibility 

Finnplay’s platform, Titan continues to deliver steady performance, with 2023 so far reporting 99.99% uptime across all brands.  Finnplay also added to its process stability by acquiring the ISO 27001 certification in May.  The process helped mature and streamline the company’s internal processes and going forward will make the auditing process more efficient in regulated markets.

Additionally, in 2023 Finnplay has successfully completed 5 platform audits and 4 CDB audits for its Dutch customers, while also becoming compliant with the KSA’s new 1.1 data model.  Finnplay also helped a new operator obtain its license (Hommerson B.V.), and is taking the site live in January 2024.

Understanding customer needs

Finnplay differentiates itself by focusing on delivery and responsiveness to customer needs.  In an industry dominated by “big box” suppliers, Finnplay is more of a boutique brand with a focus on quality rather than volume.  During this year, Finnplay increased its customer service to full 24/7 availability, greatly enhancing the operators’ ability to get assistance whenever needed.

Finnplay also conducted its bi-annual Customer Satisfaction Survey and maintained an impressive performance score with 92% of customers giving a positive satisfaction rating.

Other developments this year to help streamline communication included migrating the entire ticketing system to Jira to better connect the links between service issues and development tasks and priorities.

During 2023, the Back Office also received a substantial revamp based on customer requirements including moving it to and entirely new tech stack to enhance the UI, UX and performance. The Core architecture was also improved to better support flexible, GDPR-complaint access control, and audit logging. 

In summary, Finnplay continues to go from strength to strength.  The company is delivering consistent, profitable growth, leadership in compliant technology, with a flexible, customer-centric approach. The company is set for continued success in 2024 ahead and will be preparing for the much anticipated opening of its home market, Finland, in 2026.  Congratulations and thanks to the entire team for another best-in-class performance!
